Purposes
We use enquiry details to:
- respond to your enquiry;
- assess whether a short project-fit conversation would be useful;
- prevent abuse of the enquiry form (including automated or duplicate submissions); and
- manage follow-up if you proceed to a scoped engagement.
What we collect
Required: email address; the topic you select (“What would you like help with?”); and your acknowledgement of this Privacy Notice. We cannot process an enquiry without these fields.
Optional: name, institution, and a short project note. You may leave optional fields blank.
We do not ask for your role, telephone number, or a full proposal at first contact.
Recipients and processors
Your details may be accessed by:
- Patrick Chu (the operator), who reviews and responds to enquiries;
- Cloudflare, which hosts the website, processes form submissions through its Worker platform, and stores enquiry records in Cloudflare D1 infrastructure; and
- professional advisers or public authorities where disclosure is legally required.
Data may be processed or stored outside Hong Kong through Cloudflare infrastructure.
Marketing
Enquiry details are not used for marketing unless you separately opt in to marketing communications.
Retention
Enquiries that do not proceed to an engaged client relationship are deleted twelve months after the last contact about that enquiry.
Records for engaged clients are retained according to the separate contractual and legal retention schedule agreed for that engagement.

Website analytics and link attribution
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate use of this website, such as page views, referring sites, browser type and country-level traffic. Cloudflare provides this service as our infrastructure and analytics processor. We do not use this analytics service to create advertising profiles, and we do not treat an analytics event as proof that a particular person viewed a page.
Links in communications from Patrick Chu Consulting may use a first-party address beginning patrickchu.net/go/. When such a link is requested, we record the time, intended destination, a pseudonymous token identifier, a coarse browser or automated-request category, and indicators used to distinguish likely automated security checks from other requests. The result may be labelled "scanner", "likely browser" or "ambiguous"; it is never treated as confirmation that a person opened or read a message.
We do not store the link token itself, the full user-agent string, the referring URL or the raw IP address in the attribution database. An IP address is processed transiently to produce keyed pseudonymous values used for abuse prevention, deduplication and classification. Those values are cleared after 7 days. Individual attribution events are deleted after 90 days. Aggregate counts are retained for 13 months. Suppression records used to honour opt-out or do-not-contact requests are retained so that the request continues to be respected.
We process this information to operate and secure the website, measure aggregate effectiveness, diagnose automated link checking, and manage communications. Our relevant service providers include Cloudflare, which hosts and protects the website and provides analytics, and Microsoft, which provides our business email service. Information may be processed in locations where those providers operate, subject to their applicable contractual and security measures.
You may contact us using the privacy contact details already stated in this notice to ask about access, correction or deletion of personal data, to object to or restrict processing where applicable, or to request that we stop contacting you. Some information may be retained where necessary to honour a suppression request, protect the service or meet legal obligations.
